Moment Drum Skit, a YFBOB moment WAV
What do you get when you lock a breakbeat producer and a skilled live drummer together in a room full of vintage gear? YFBOB—Your Friend Brennan (YFB) and Outback (OB)—recorded their DEATHBYSHEEP-released debut tape ‘Display Case’ in a week-long fervor: Brennan hammering out high-tempo breaks while Outback twists knobs of hardware FX in real time.
Originally from Victoria, BC, the duo met years ago playing in a backing band while etching out solo projects, Outback DJing introspective jungle and hardcore with the likes of 909 Worldwide, and YFB genre-bending across ambient boards and post-punk confines.
‘Drum Skit,’ uses the same mad science as their tape, but was all newly recorded for your sampling pleasure: live performed studio drums, both clean and processed, one-shot and loop; synth textures from the Prophet 600 and Korg MS-20; and voltage-starved effects pushing the limits of an Eventide H3000 and a “Frankenstein’d” Neve console.
It’s a playful take on junglist traditions and a showcase of experimentation beyond bounds. When asked about the pack process, the duo only told us: “these drums aren’t gonna play themselves…”
