Piero Pirupa deconstructs Beatport #1 “We don’t need” TUTORIAL

International DJ and producer Piero Pirupa shows you how he made his Beatport No.1 “We Don’t Need” and tells the story behind the track.

Have you ever listened to a hit song and wished you could take a look at the DAW session to see what kind of production magic was involved in its creation? Well, now you can, as tech house DJ and producer Piero Pirupa reveals the sauce that went into his 2022 Beatport No.1 “We Don’t Need”.
“We Don’t Need” is a special track with a unique story. What began as a bootleg that Pirupa played in his sets took off when the Italian producer sent the track to a handful of DJs including Carl Cox and Fisher, who loved it so much they started playing it out themselves. The track samples the Pink Floyd classic “Another Brick in the Wall”, and although others such as Eric Prydz and Vintage Culture have done it in the past, securing the copyright rights to do so is no mean feat. Pirupa and his management team laboured for three years to get the sample clearance, and when they finally did, COVID-19 struck in 2020, delaying its release.
The track came out eventually in 2022, and went straight to number one on the Beatport charts.

In this course, Piero runs through the sample replays, drum processing, bass and synth sounds, EQ techniques and foley that make up “We Don’t Need”. His Ableton Live project is stacked with tracks, and Pirupa goes through them one by one to show you their individual character, imparting some key music production insight along the way. You’ll get to see all the effects racks and plugins he used to achieve the huge sound that made the track such a hit.
Before “We Don’t Need”, Piero Pirupa was no stranger to success, making it look easy with multiple Beatport No.1’s spread out over a 13 year period.
His first, “Sweet Devil”, came in 2009, and along the way, Pirupa has released on the likes of Universal/Island, Spinnin Records, Defected and Toolroom, and played at some of the most prestigious clubs and festivals in the world, including Space, Ministry of Sound, Pacha, Sonar and Surround Festival.
